about Cutaneous Ultrasound

skin ultrasound
Skin ultrasound, also known as dermatosonography, is a noninvasive diagnostic technique used to visualize structures beneath the surface of the skin.
It uses high-frequency waves to produce images of subcutaneous tissues and is a useful tool for diagnosing and monitoring a variety of dermatological conditions. This is used to evaluate skin lesions (helps differentiate between benign and malignant lesions), monitor response to treatment, evaluate scarring, evaluate inflammatory skin conditions, or guide biopsies or invasive procedures.
This medical method of diagnosis does not require ionizing radiation and does not pose significant risks to the patient.

BENEFITS

Soft tissue evaluation: Skin ultrasound can be used to examine soft tissues such as skin, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. This can help identify lesions and pathological changes in these structures.

Managing skin aging: Skin ultrasound can be used to assess skin aging and changes related to this process, such as loss of skin elasticity and changes in the thickness of the dermis layer.

Guiding biopsies or other invasive procedures (melting hyaluronic acid)

It is non-invasive and safe: Skin ultrasound is a non-invasive and safe diagnostic method. It does not involve making an incision or other procedure that could be painful or cause an additional risk of infection.

Identification of dermatological conditions: Skin ultrasound can be useful in evaluating skin conditions such as cysts, abscesses, and skin tumors. It can also be used to assess skin and dermis thickness, fat layer and areas of edema.

Monitoring the progress of treatments: Skin ultrasound can be used to monitor the progress of skin treatments such as laser therapies.

frequent questions

Why is skin ultrasound necessary?

Skin ultrasound is needed in many cases, such as the evaluation of skin lesions, the detection of vascular abnormalities, the identification of tumors or other skin conditions, and to guide interventional procedures.

How is skin ultrasound performed?

During skin ultrasound, an ultrasound probe coated with conductive ultrasound gel is placed on the patient's skin. The doctor will move the probe over the skin to analyze the ultrasound images of the structures of interest.

Is skin ultrasound painful?

Skin ultrasound is usually painless and does not require local anesthesia. Sometimes it may cause some pressure or friction sensations, but these are often minimal and well tolerated.

Are there any risks associated with skin ultrasound?

In general, skin ultrasound is considered safe and there are no major risks associated with this procedure. However, slight skin irritation or, in rare cases, an allergic reaction to the conductive gel may be possible.

What are the uses of skin ultrasound in corrective dermatology (injections)?

Skin ultrasound helps us to analyze the disposition of the vessels in the tissue (so that we can inject in areas of vascular risk with increased precision and reduce the associated risks), we can guide the injection of substances into the tissue (especially in the case of hyaluronidase injection) or we can evaluate and monitor possible post-injection side effects.
